The Emory Clinic Ambulatory Surgery Center is a state-of-the art facility designed exclusively for patients who are scheduled for a surgery that does not require an overnight stay in the hospital.  Thanks to advances in modern medicine, 65% of all procedures are now conducted on an out-patient basis, which allows patients to return more quickly to a normal life within the comfort of their own homes.

A complete variety of surgeries are performed in our facility, from general surgery to plastic surgery procedures.

The Emory Anesthesia team at the Ambulatory Surgery Center assists in each patient's care during surgery, including alleviating pain and monitoring the heart, lungs and other vital functions during the procedure.

The team is directed by Yung-Fong Sung, MD who is also Chief of Anesthesiology.  All of the physician anesthesiologists at the center have advanced medical training and are academic staff members of the world-renowned Emory University Medical School.

Pre and Post Surgery Procedures

Once your physician or surgeon schedules a procedure at the Emory Clinic Ambulatory Center, we will schedule a pre-operative visit to prepare you for what to expect, provide instructions and answer any questions.

Most procedures take an average of two to three hours; however this will vary depending on the type of surgery you are scheduled for.

Following the procedure, you will be taken to a recovery room where trained nurses will provide you with close care while you are waking up. The average time in the recovery room is two to three hours.

Discharge and Follow-Up

The staff of the Emory Clinic Ambulatory Center will provide instructions and follow-up before you are discharged.  In addition, a member of our nursing staff will telephone you the day after your surgery to follow your progress and to assist you and your family with any questions.
