Emory Bariatric Center
The Emory Bariatric Center is one of the leading weight-management programs for treating obesity in the southeast and is accredited as a Level 1 Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the Bariatric Surgery Center Network Accreditation Program of the American College of Surgeons.
After an initial consultation and comprehensive medical evaluation, the prospective patient and the center's multi-specialty team, which includes a bariatrician, a psychologist, dietitians, surgeons, physician assistants, and exercise specialists, will cooperate on defining an appropriate, customized weight loss plan. Treatment methods include nutrition and exercise therapy, lifestyle education, pharmacotherapy and laparoscopic weight-loss surgery.

Emory Endosurgery Unit for Minimally Invasive Surgery
The Emory Endosurgery Unit is committed to advancing minimally invasive surgery through education, research and surgical treatment with a focus on endoscopic and laparoscopic bariatric surgery, colon and rectal surgery, gastroesophageal surgery, hernia surgery, and solid organ and endocrine surgery. The unit has cooperated with other Emory surgical programs to develop such techniques as live donor nephrectomy, laparoscopic management of polycystic kidney and liver disease, thoracoscopic sympathectomy for hyperhidrosis and laparoscopic access for spine surgery. Unit surgeons perform single incision laparoscopic surgery (developed by Dr. Edward Lin and his colleagues) for colon cancer, gall bladder, and appendix operations, and such laparoscopic-assisted formal liver resections (developed by Dr. Lin and Dr. Juan Sarmiento) as right hemicolectomies involving extremely small incisions.
One of the unit's programs, the Emory Hernia Institute, is a referral/consultation center known for treating difficult hernia cases with laparoscopic ventral hernia and inguinal hernia repair; the institute has been involved in some of the world's most extensive multi-institutional studies of the techniques.
The unit also sponsors the Emory Simulation, Training and Robotics Center (ESTAR), which trains surgical and medical students and professional clinicians via computerized and robotic simulation tools while refining those tools and measuring their educational effectiveness.

Emory Gastroesophageal Treatment Center
Using either laparoscopic, endoscopic or open methods, the gastroesophageal center treats esophageal cancer, Barrett's esophagus and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Available procedures include esophagogastric myotomy, fundoplications and redo procedures for failed attempts at operative treatment as well as minimally invasive approaches for the diagnosis of GERD, including catheterless/wireless esophageal pH testing. New innovations for the treatment of reflux and esophageal diseases are being evaluated and tested.
