Arrhythmia Treatment
Emory's Arrhythmia treatment program is one of the most comprehensive and innovative clinics for heart rhythm disorders in the country. Our electrophysiologists have performed more ablation procedures than anyone in the southeast and rank among the world's leaders in cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT).
As primary and principal investigators for many national clinical trials, Emory's electrophysiologists have been pioneers in shaping treatment options for patients with arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation and congestive heart disease. Emory has participated in numerous atrial fibrillation (A-fib, AF) and atrial flutter (a-flutter) studies with multiple catheters and energy sources. Recently, we participated in two drug trials of anticoagulants that will soon be released as alternatives to warfarin for preventing stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. We also have ongoing clinical trials of new pacemakers, defibrillators, ablation catheters, as well as new ways to use existing devices to help patients.
Emory’s specialized electrophysiology (EP) labs host state-of-the-art equipment, including computerized three-dimensional mapping systems to assist ablation of complex arrhythmias, and an excimer laser system to perform pacemaker and defibrillator lead extractions.
Patients with devices, whether implanted by Emory’s electrophysiologists or elsewhere, have access to Emory’s comprehensive follow-up care. Patients benefit from remote monitoring, quarterly ICD Support Groups, and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. The Emory Heart & Vascular Center hosts one of only three monitoring stations in the metro-Atlanta area.
Inpatient telemetry and coronary care units, as well as outpatient care and educational support of patients with pacemakers and implantable cardiac devices (ICDs), complete Emory’s comprehensive range of arrhythmia treatments and services.
Emory offers heart rhythm management services at two convenient locations: Emory University Hospital Midtown and Emory University Hospital. In addition, Emory electrophysiologists have several satellite clinic locations throughout the state.
