Arrhythmia Screening Clinics

Emory has 3 heart rhythm disorder (arrhythmia) screening locations for patients who have not been previously diagnosed with a heart abnormality (such as A-Fib or A-Flutter).

If you have experienced an irregular heart beat, palpitations, a racing heart beat, SVT, tachycardia, bradycardia or other heart irregularities, we recommend that you schedule an appointment with a specialty-trained Emory Healthcare Nurse Practitioner who will begin a comprehensive screening evaluation to determine whether you need follow up care with an Emory Electrophysiologist.

The heart rhythm diagnostic screening evaluation* will include:

  • History and Physical to determine if a patient has any other conditions that may be causing the heart rhythm disturbances
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG) – to test for problems with the electrical activity of your heart.
  • If deemed necessary, you will receive either an event monitor or holter monitor
    • Holter monitor – this is a portable monitor that a patient wears for 24 – 48 hours to continuously record the heart  rhythm for review by a cardiac rhythm specialist.
    • Event monitor – this is worn continuously for two to four weeks. Each time the patient experiences an heart rhythm episode, or suspicious symptoms, the patient can activate the device to record the heart rhythm which is then transferred back to a cardiac specialist trained diagnose arrhythmia.

If you are having or have recently had heart palpitations, a racing heart or any other heart disturbances that concern you, please call 404-778-7777 to schedule your screening appointment!

If the locations above are not convenient for you, please call 404-778-7777 and the Emory HealthConnection℠ nurses can direct you to another practitioner who can do a similar exam.

*The screening will be billed to your insurance as an office visit. If you have questions on whether you need a referral please call your primary care provider. If you do not have a primary care provider please call 404-778-7777 and we can help you find the right physician for you.
