Comprehensive Weight Management with OPTIFAST®
As part of our comprehensive weight management program, Emory Bariatric Center offers medically-supervised programs that incorporate meal replacements. These nutritionally-complete drinks, soups, and bars from OPTIFAST® are stimuli narrowing and make eating simple and can be an effective short-term nutrition option with our 14 and 21-week plans. If, together we determine this is the right path for you, our registered dietitians will help you incorporate these convenient products into your plan.
How it works
This scientifically proven weight loss method, known as stimuli narrowing, decreases the number of food intake choices, resulting in significantly decreased caloric intake. Most patients experience rapid, steady weight loss while on meal replacements. To reduce potential health risks and adjust your treatment program as needed, our medical bariatric physician will monitor you closely through periodic check-ups and metabolic lab testing.
Following the meal replacement phase, you will transition back to regular food through a sound nutrition plan individually designed to optimize your weight loss and maintenance. As your weight reduction goals are achieved and your health improves, our bariatrician will communicate with your personal physician as needed to coordinate your ongoing medical care.
A key component of our program is a series of group lifestyle education classes led by professional weight management experts. Through these sessions, participants gain the knowledge and skills necessary to manage their weight and overall health.

- 14-week OPTIFAST® meal replacement programs
- Programs of shorter duration are available depending on individual needs
