Medical Oncology

Medical Oncology focuses on the treatment of cancer with medicine, including chemotherapy and drug therapies. A medical oncologist commonly oversees the general cancer care for patients and coordinates with other specialists to develop and deliver a treatment plan.

The cancer specialists at Winship Cancer Institute are among the nation's leading experts, providing multi-modality cancer care developed through years of training and research. In fact, as the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center in Georgia, discovering and developing groundbreaking cancer treatments through research and clinical studies is what sets our treatment teams apart.

Below is a list of cancers our medical oncologists treat, but are not restricted to:

  • Breast cancer
  • Colon cancer
  • Head and neck cancer
  • Liver cancer
  • Melanoma
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Rectal cancer
  • Sarcoma
  • Skin cancer

At Winship at Emory, our goal is to improve cancer cure rates and minimize the effects of treatment therapies used on patients.
