Kidney Transplant Program

Nationally Recognized, State-of-the-Art Care

Emory Healthcare’s Kidney Transplant Program ranks as one of the most prestigious transplant programs in the country. Our team of specialists is highly skilled in caring for kidney transplant patients and living donors. We work with you every step of the way in your transplant journey.

Emory pioneers new transplant therapies and provide clinically excellent care to all our patients. Our quality outcomes are higher than the national average.

Experience Matters

Emory performed Georgia’s first kidney transplant in 1966. Since then, we’ve completed over 5,600 kidney transplants. We rank among the top 15 programs in the nation for adult kidney transplant volume (OPTN CY2020 data). This experience, combined with our top-ranked survival outcomes, ensures our patients receive the highest quality care.

Commitment to Transplant Research

Our medical breakthroughs are known throughout the world. Emory physicians played a crucial role in developing Belatacept, a medication that prevents rejection without the side effects of previous medications. These efforts help today’s kidney transplant patients and will improve outcomes for future patients.

Living Donor Program, Paired Donor Exchange

Our living donor kidney transplant program has performed more than 1,600 live donor transplants. Our Paired Donor Exchange Program ranks among the top 10 programs in the country through the National Kidney Registry.

Support Before and After Surgery

Patient education and other resources are part of our care programs. For patients who travel to the region, we offer the Mason Guest House , a low-cost home away from home.
