Emory Adult Congenital Heart Center patient Martha Edwards

Emory Adult Congenital Heart Center patient Martha Edwards was born with a hole in her heart but she has not let this stop her from living a very fulfilling life.

Martha's childhood cardiologists told her she would not be able to have children or live past the age of 24. Now many years later with 2 adopted children, Martha credits Emory's Adult Congenital heart disease specialist Wendy Book, MD for designing a customized treatment plan to help keep Martha active and off the heart transplant list.

Although some days are more challenging, Martha maintains an active lifestyle. She enjoys simple household chores and playing with her wonderful children and grandchildren.
