Male Breast Reduction

Male breast reduction is performed for men with gynecomastia, a condition of male breast overdevelopment.

The procedure removes fat and glandular tissue from the breasts, resulting in a chest that is flatter, firmer and better contoured.

In many cases the surgery may be completed by liposuction alone, leaving only small scars. In other instances, a semicircular incision around the areola may be necessary to directly excise residual tissue that cannot be removed with liposuction alone. In severe cases with significant amounts of excess skin, additional incisions will need to be made for skin removal.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes one to two hours. Patients are placed in a compression vest following surgery to minimize fluid accumulation and facilitate skin retraction. This is worn for one or more weeks. There may be some bruising that will disappear over one to two weeks.
