Brow Lift

A brow lift is performed to raise the eyebrows and reduce ridges and furrows on the forehead, thus creating a smoother, more youthful appearance. Not only can the brow position be improved, but by reducing the strength of the muscles of the forehead, the vertical furrows, sometimes call the "11's," can be reduced and in some cases eliminated entirely.

Originally a brow lift always involved an incision in the hairline extending from one ear to the other, but there are many more options today. For example, frequently brow lifts are performed endoscopically (endoscopic brow lift) using three to five small incisions hidden in the scalp. An even newer technique frequently used at the Emory Aesthetic Center uses fewer small incisions (typically two), and combines this with an upper eyelid tuck (blepharoplasty) to address the muscles.

A brow lift is typically performed under general anesthesia and takes one to one and a half hours. The upper eyelids can be bruised and swollen for one to two weeks following surgery. Most often there will be sutures that are removed in the office 10 to 14 days after surgery.

Brow lifts are often performed in conjunction with other facial surgeries, such as eyelid procedures, face lift, neck lift, and chemical peels or lasers. Your Emory Aesthetic Center surgeon can discuss the various treatment options with you to optimize your results.
