Fractional Laser Resurfacing

For patients who cannot afford the downtime associated with operating room lasers, Emory offers non-ablative laser treatments using the Palomar Starlux 500®, which can improve skin tone without a lengthy recovery.

In fractional laser resurfacing, the laser penetrates beneath the skin surface to the dermis, where it heats the tissue and initiates a healing process that forms new, healthy tissue. This results in a fresher and more youthful skin tone.

The treated areas may have a pink tone for about a week, but generally patients can return to work and other activities immediately. A series of treatments at three- to six-week intervals is usually required to achieve the desired result. Treatments can be performed on most areas of the body, including the face, neck, arms and hands.
