Provider Patient Safety Module

Our first priority at Emory Healthcare (EHC) is to care for the health and safety of our patients and their families. One of the ways we fulfill this goal is through requiring providers to complete the Annual Provider Patient Safety Module.

All providers at EHC must complete the 2012 module by 4 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2012.

Here are the three things you need to do by 4 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2012:

1. Get the influenza vaccination.

Get vaccinated for free at an EHC flu vaccination event or Employee Health (click here for locations). For a schedule of flu vaccination events, log on to the Virtual Desktop, visit the home page of the intranet (www.ourehc.org) and click the influenza button, or contact Employee Health (click here for contact information).

Although all providers can get vaccinated through Employee Health, EHC- and EU-employed providers must complete the online consent form (pre-registration) prior to getting vaccinated by Employee Health. Non-EHC-employed providers or those providers being vaccinated outside of Employee Health do not need to complete online pre-registration. To pre-register, log on to e-Vantage, then click Self Service and Influenza Vaccination Registration to complete the form. (e-Vantage is also accessible via the right-hand navigation on the intranet, www.ourehc.org. Log on with your network ID and password.)

2. Get the TB test (tests performed within the past 12 months are permitted), unless previously PPD positive or have history of treated TB.

You can obtain a TB test at Employee Health (click here for locations) at no cost. Private practice providers can go to any of the Employee Health offices to have the TB test placed and read. Appointments are recommended, but not required.

3. Complete all requirements of the online Provider Patient Safety Module curriculum and test.

Access the Provider Patient Safety Module curriculum and test by clicking the Prevent the Spread button at the bottom of this page. Then, do the following:

  • Take the course and test. The course and test should take an estimated 25 minutes to complete, and you must obtain a score of 100 percent to pass. Note: Response time for the test may be faster if accessed outside of the EHC Virtual Desktop.

New for 2012: You will see new compliance content in the course. Providers at Saint Joseph’s Hospital will have the opportunity to state whether they have taken the SJH compliance training this year. Those providers will be able to self-attest to taking the training and skip this portion of the curriculum.

Past content moved from annual module to reappointment: This year, to streamline completion of the curriculum while not compromising patient care, we have moved three sections out of the annual program and to reappointment. These include restraints; tissue allograft management; and self-reporting of immunizations, excluding influenza. Look for this content at your reappointment.

  • Document your seasonal influenza vaccination within the module. If you are submitting documentation of vaccination outside of EHC or a medical or religious exemption form, note the below additional step:

    • Submit documentation if vaccinated outside of EHC. All documentation should be sent to Cindy Hall in Employee Health via email, cynthia.hall@emoryhealthcare.org, or fax, 404-686-1527.

    • Submit a completed medical or religious exemption form (form available on the Annual Provider Patient Safety Module) to Cindy Hall in Employee Health (see information above). The religious exemption form must be signed by your religious leader or hospital chaplain. Remember: You must apply for exemption each year.

  • Self report your TB test (performed within past 12 months) within the module.
