Dr. David Murphy

David Murphy, MD, PhD

David J. Murphy, MD, PhD is Assistant Professor of Medicine at Emory University in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine.  Dr. Murphy serves as the Director of Quality for the Emory Critical Care Center.

Dr. Murphy completed his undergraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University; medical school at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School; Residency and Chief Residency at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School; and subspecialty training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins University.  Prior to joining the Emory faculty, he completed his doctoral training in Clinical Investigation from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health through the Graduate Training Program in Clinical Investigation (GTPCI).

An active intensivist and pulmonologist, Dr. Murphy develops and applies rigorous yet feasible methods to advance healthcare quality and patient safety within and across organizations.  His primary research areas include eliminating preventable healthcare associated infections, employing evidence based transfusion practices, and improving the care of patients with sepsis and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
