Dr. Laureen Hill

Laureen Hill, MBA

After completing her anesthesiology residency at Stanford, Dr. Laureen L. Hill pursued fellowships in both critical care medicine and cardiovascular anesthesia, with a focus in congenital cardiac anesthesia.  She joined the faculty at Stanford as assistant professor until 2000 when she was recruited to Washington University in St. Louis, MO.  Her initial focus there was to help develop a new cardiothoracic (CT) intensive care unit service and CT critical care training program.  Building on the success of the new ICU program, Dr. Hill then went on to develop and direct the preoperative evaluation clinic which currently serves over 25,000 patients each year.  Her experiences in program development and healthcare leadership led her to pursue formal business training earning her MBA at Washington University Olin School of Business in 2006. 

Dr. Hill served as Vice Chairman of the department at Washington University for 7 years before being recruited as Chair, Department of Anesthesiology at Emory University School of Medicine in 2011.  In addition to her administrative role, she continues to have a busy perioperative clinical practice, including preoperative evaluation, intraoperative anesthesia and critical care medicine.  Her academic interests include healthcare systems and economics with an emphasis on perioperative organization and operations.
