Projects in both basic and clinical research are represented within the Neuromuscular Division. Funding comes from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) from private foundations, and from grateful patients. Some ongoing research projects are:

Clinical:

  • Drug trials for patients with ALSNovel genetic factors in the pathogenesis of ALS
  • Coordinating center for multicenter clinical trial of IVIG in childhood Guillain Barre Syndrome
  • Prospective evaluation of Myopathies in the intensive care unit
  • Novel approaches to Neuromuscular Medical Education

Basic:

  • Protease activity in models of axonal degeneration
  • Rodent models of peripheral neuropathy and ALS
  • Sodium Channel function in models of Quadriplegic Myopathy (Rich)
  • Novel therapeutic interventions in ALS
