John Xerogeanes, MD
Chief of The Emory Sports Medicine Center
John Xerogeanes, M.D., or Dr. "X" as he's known by his staff and patients, is chief of Sports Medicine at the Emory Orthopaedic & Spine Center. He is also head orthopaedist and team physician for Georgia Tech, Emory University, and Agnes Scott College. In addition to Dr. Xerogeanes' work with college-level athletes, he also cares for many professional, high school and recreational athletes.
After earning his undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of California Davis and his medical degree from Emory University, Dr. Xerogeanes completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. He then moved to Vail, Colorado, where he completed a fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic, specializing in Sports Medicine/Knee and Shoulder Surgery.
As a member of a number of professional societies and organizations, including the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Xerogeanes has contributed to many textbooks and has received numerous research awards. His research has been published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy, Journal of Trauma and Annals of Biomedical Engineering. In addition to his many publications, he has been a visiting lecturer at numerous institutions on four continents. Dr. Xerogeanes' work has been featured on CNN, ESPN and network television news.
