In less time than it will take to read through the pages of this website, someone in the United States will have a stroke.  Strokes, or “brain attacks,” occur nearly every 45 seconds and are the leading cause of long-term disability in the nation. Stroke, occuring among men and women almost equally, at all times of life, is also the number three killer in terms of disease.

But today there are many innovative treatments for stroke and, if treated promptly by an experienced, multidisciplinary team, stroke damage may be greatly reduced.  The Emory MBNA Stroke Center is dedicated to providing innovative treatment and rehabilitation for stroke patients, as well as the education necessary to help prevent stroke among individuals at risk.

The Emory MBNA Stroke Center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for the rapid evaluation and treatment of patients with stroke and other cerebrovascular diseases.  The presence of the around-the-clock acute Stroke Team makes the Emory MBNA Stroke Center one of the few major regional centers to offer such a wide range of services.  Located in Atlanta, Georgia, we are part of the Emory University School of Medicine, one of the world’s leading academic and medical research institutions, and Emory Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading health care systems.  The center is a division of Emory’s Departments of Neurological Surgery, Neurology and Interventional Neuroradiology.  These resources, combined with our own research studies in innovative medical, surgical and endovascular treatments for stroke, have helped us earn our reputation as one of the outstanding stroke centers in the nation.
