Emory/MBNA Stroke Center
The Emory MBNA Stroke Center Neurointensive/Neurocritical Care
The Neurointensive/Neurocritical Care Service operates in the prevention and treatment of potentially lethal complications of cerebrovascular disease and injury. Our dedicated neurointensivist physicians and nurse practitioners work full time to augment the care of critically ill neurological patients.
Care in the Neurointensive Care Unit also includes a team of specialty trained neuroscience nurses, and consultation with neurologists and neurosurgeons.
Our critical care program is designed to detect early signs of brain abnormalities and irregularities and provide interventional techniques and procedures that will prevent damage or further injury in stroke patients. To that end, we use diagnostic tools to monitor cerebral blood flow and circulation, including EEGs, ultrasound and PET (positron emission tomography).
Clinical and laboratory research, as well as educational opportunities, ensure the most advanced approaches to the treatment of stroke. And, as part of our commitment to excellence in patient care, the program's physicians are available at all times for emergency consultation.
