The mission of the McKelvey Lung Transplantation Center is to improve patient outcomes following lung transplantation and promote the development of novel medical therapies for various lung diseases.
In 1993, the first lung transplant was performed at Emory. It remains the only lung transplant program in the state of Georgia . Through our coordination and integration of research, education, and patient care, Emory’s Lung Transplant program is a premier program. With over 200 lung transplants performed by our renowned thoracic surgeons, you can be sure that you’ll get the most innovative and sophisticated care this country has to offer.
All transplant evaluations, procedures, and follow-up care are performed on Emory University’s campus on Clifton Road.
Emory University Hospital units that specialize in the care of lung transplant patients include 5BN, 5BS and 9E. The Mason Outpatient Transplant Clinic, located on the 6th floor of The Emory Clinic Building B, provides the facilities for both pre-transplant evaluation and post-transplant follow-up care.
