Scheduling a Consultation and Clinical Location
Scheduling Details
For a pediatric surgical consultation, contact the Sibley Heart Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston at 404-256-2593 or 800-542-2233, info@kidsheart.com.
Before an adult surgical consultation can be arranged, an appointment for evaluation must be scheduled at the Emory/Sibley Adult Congenital Cardiac Program of Emory Cardiology at 404-778-5545. Patients that meet the criteria for surgery will then be referred to an Emory congenital cardiac surgeon at Egleston.
The following information will expedite the scheduling process:
Referral from the primary care physician (if surgery is medically necessary) |
Primary care physician's name, address, and telephone number |
Patient's name, address, and telephone number |
Patient's date of birth |
Patient's social security number |
Diagnosis and date of diagnosis |
Description of any prior treatment |
Insurance information |

First Visit
All pertinent medical records, x-rays, and cardiac catheterization films should be brought to the first appointment. If possible, the surgeon would prefer to review these items before the consultation. This can be arranged by calling 404-785-6330.
Prior to being accepted as a candidate for surgery, patients will undergo a series of tests to determine the extent of disease, whether surgery will be beneficial, how well other organs in the body are functioning, and if the patient's physiology can withstand the rigors of surgery. These tests may include:
Laboratory blood work |
An echocardiogram providing images of the heart's valves and chambers |
Heart catheterization |
MRI |
Upon analysis of the test results, a treatment plan will be developed in coordination with the referring physician.
