Emory-Children's Center Division of Cystic Fibrosis Center

Emory-Children's Center and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta have partnered to provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for cystic fibrosis patients from newborn through adulthood.

The jointly operated Cystic Fibrosis team has a freestanding center located on the Emory campus, just a couple of blocks from Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Services provided at the center include both an outpatient clinic operated by Emory University and an inpatient facility operated by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta to which both children and adults may be admitted. Emory-Children's Center physicians provide the care at both the outpatient clinic and inpatient facility.

All Cystic Fibrosis patients' emergency, surgical or intensive care needs are provided at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University affiliated hospitals.


Services

The Cystic Fibrosis team provides the following resources and services:

  • Diagnostic sweat testing, gastrointestinal and pulmonary function testing
  • Genetic counseling and testing
  • Inpatient and outpatient care
  • Active involvement from multiple medical subspecialties, including pulmonology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, and psychiatry, with consultative support from all other specialties
  • Respiratory care instruction
  • Nutritional support
  • Social service support
  • Education resources for patients and families
  • Active participation in a variety of multicenter clinical trials of new CF therapies

Cystic Fibrosis is staffed with a multidisciplinary team of pulmonologists, gastroenterologists and Emory-Children's Center physicians provide the care for both the outpatient clinics and the inpatient facility.

Patient Education

A family education day with invited speakers and discussion panels is hosted at the Cystic Fibrosis center annually. Topics include updates from the annual Cystic Fibrosis Foundation meeting, social and emotional issues faced by patients and families, therapy techniques, associated complications such as diabetes, the latest clinical research breakthroughs, and panel discussions.

The Chloride Channel is a quarterly newsletter sent to all of our patients with educational articles on patient care, upcoming activities, and information relevant to clinic visits. Please contact us if you would like to be added to the mailing list.
