The general surgeons of Emory Crawford Long Hospital offer surgery for a wide range of conditions including inflammatory bowel disease, endocrine disease, gallbladder disease, pancreatic disease, esophageal and gastric disease, intra-abdominal infections and hernias.  Our surgeons are experts in the latest procedures and are leaders in the advancements of medical innovation.  We emphasize minimally invasive procedures, with state-of-the-art endoscopic and laparoscopic alternatives to traditional surgical procedures for conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease, hernia, and gallbladder and colorectal cancers.

Endoscopic and laparoscopic techniques allow surgeons to operate without a large incision.  Instead, they operate through three or four tiny incisions.  The instruments include tiny cameras that allow the surgeon to view the patients? internal organs on a monitor.  A major benefit of minimally invasive procedures is that patients recover much more quickly.  Instead of a three or four-week recovery from a major incision, patients usually can return home in a day or two.  These procedures are used for about 95 percent of all gallbladder operations.  The range of conditions that can be treated with minimally invasive procedures is growing at a phenomenal rate.  Endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures have been found to be just as effective but without the pain, recovery and cost of traditional surgery.

The general surgeons of Emory Crawford Long Hospital have been at the forefront of these exciting and life-altering developments in modern surgery and are well-positioned to continue advancing the care we provide.
