The specialty of urology includes the treatment of urinary tract disorders suffered by men and women as well as male genital and reproductive system disorders.  Urological conditions can range from urinary incontinence in men and women to life-threatening conditions. such as prostate cancer.  Fortunately the urologists of Emory Crawford Long Hospital have been at the forefront of the great medical progress that has been made in recent years in the treatment of urinary tract disorders for both sexes.  Some of the most common conditions of the urinary tract, such as incontinence or frequent urinary infections, can occur as a result of aging. But other diseases, such as diabetes also can lead to the development of a urinary tract complication or disorder.

The conditions Emory Crawford Long Hospital urologists treat include but are not limited to:

  • Interstitial systitis, an irritation of the bladder wall causing painful urination (sufferers are 90 percent women)
  • Polycystic kidney disease, fluid-filled cysts in the kidneys
  • Kidney cancer
  • Kidney stones
  • Hematuria, red blood cells in the urine
  • Neurogenic bladder, a condition that affects the bladder nerves and function
  • Cystocele, a hernia-like disorder in women caused by a weakened wall between the bladder and vagina
  • Male infertility
  • Male impotence
  • Prostate disease and cancer

Our urologists will work with you and/or your primary care physician to design a treatment plan that will manage your condition with the latest treatment and innovative techniques available.
