Patients often want family members or friends to accompany them during their stay in the ED, and we support this fully. However, to ensure the comfort, safety and privacy of all patients, we request that visitors inside the treatment area be limited to one per patient. If a staff member approaches you regarding the number of visitors at the bedside, please do not be offended, and make every effort to comply with this policy.

Upon registration you will be asked if you permit the release of information to outside callers. If you do not wish to have this information released, please inform a staff member immediately. Please note that we cannot release specific information regarding your diagnosis and treatment, but can inform the caller whether you are or are not receiving care in our ED and the status of your condition (e.g. critical, stable).

For those individuals seeking psychiatric care, we cannot release any information, including whether you are or are not a patient in our ED. If family and/or friends contact us regarding a patient seeking psychiatric care, they will be notified that we are prohibited by law to disclose any information as indicated above.

Communication with Private Physicians

Waiting Time

The goal of the ED is to evaluate all patients in a prompt and timely manner. At times there are unavoidable delays or waits. However, every effort will be made to make your visit as comfortable as possible. You may feel that your wait time is "excessive"; however, a period of observation may be necessary for appropriate evaluation of your medical condition. Our staff may also be discussing your case with your private physician, waiting for your laboratory or radiology results, or awaiting the arrival of a specialist. If we fail to communicate the reason for any delays, do not hesitate to ask your physician or nurse to explain your individual situation.
