The Emory Hospitals Dietetic Internship Program is a challenging nine-month post-baccalaureate program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE). CADE is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation and the United States Department of Education.
Rotations, classes and other learning experiences are designed to meet the Standards of Education and the Competency Statements for Supervised Practice Programs established by CADE. The emphasis of the program is Nutrition Therapy.. Approximately half of the program is spent in clinical rotations and staff experience in clinical nutrition, and half is spent in food service management and community nutrition.
The internship provides interns with the skills necessary to function as entry level dietitians and compete effectively in the rapidly changing job market. Graduates receive a Verification Statement that makes them eligible to sit for the registration examination to become Registered Dietitians.
History
The Emory Hospitals Dietetic Internship Program was established initially by Emory University and accredited by the CADE in 1967. In 1989, the Department of Food and Nutrition Services of Emory University Hospital assumed responsibility for the program. Emory University Hospital and Crawford Long Hospital consolidated to form Emory Hospitals in 1995. The internship has continued to be directed and managed by the hospitals' Food and Nutrition Department.

Emory Hospitals Dietetic Internship is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE). CADE is the American Dietetic Association's accrediting agency for education programs preparing students for careers as registered dietitians. CADE exists to serve the public by establishing and enforcing eligibility requirements and accreditation standards that ensure the quality and continued improvement of nutrition and dietetics education programs.
CADE is recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. This affirms that CADE meets national standards and is a reliable authority on the quality of nutrition and dietetics programs.
