Telemedicine is a cutting-edge approach that allows patients in outlying areas to access Emory's geriatric psychiatry services in their local region. It allows patients and their primary care physicians to consult with geriatric psychiatry specialists via videoconference. Telemedicine involves using a computer complete with video and audio in order to be evaluated and followed up by a geriatric psychiatrist. This service is covered by Medicare and many other insurances. Telemedicine services are now available and are expanding.

There are over 40 telemedicine sites located in rural hospitals and clinics throughout Georgia.  Click here for a map of the sites.

How it works...

Individuals interested in Fuqua Center telemedicine services can call Centralized Scheduling at
1-866-754-4325. A scheduler will locate the closest telemedicine site to where the patient lives in order to make an appointment.

Patients will attend the appointment at their local telemedicine site and an Emory clinician will complete an evaluation with the patient via videoconference. The clinician will work closely with the patient and the patient's primary care physician to implement the recommended treatment. Fuqua Center clinicians continue to consult with the patient via telemedicine as long as deemed necessary.
