Meet The Fuqua Center Staff

William M. McDonald, MD
Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
Chief, Division of Geriatric Psychiatry
Dr. William M. McDonald graduated from Duke Medical School in 1984 and was the Chief Resident in Psychiatry at Duke and a member of the clinical faculty before moving to Emory in 1993. Throughout his career, Dr. McDonald has concentrated extensive research efforts on understanding the neuroanatomy and clinical features of mood disorders such as mania and depression, particularly when these disorders occur late in life. Dr. McDonald's primary contribution to clinical services was the development of the Geriatric Mood Disorders Program at Wesley Woods. Dr. McDonald is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with added qualifications in Geriatric Psychiatry. He is a reviewer for the American Psychiatric Association's guidelines on electroconvulsive therapy. He has been named by Woodward-White as one of the Best Doctors in America and received the 2001 Dean's Award for Medical School Teaching. Dr. McDonald currently holds the J.B. Fuqua Chair in Late-Life Depression at Emory University's School of Medicine.

Eve H. Byrd, MSN, MPH, APRN-BC
Executive Director
Ms. Eve H. Byrd graduated from the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing at Emory University where she earned her Bachelors in Nursing in 1984 and her Masters in Psychosocial Nursing in 1999. She is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner and a licensed Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist. She earned her Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Health Policy from Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. Her experience includes medical/surgical nursing, public health nursing and home health nursing. She is an adjunct faculty member at Emory's School of Nursing. Ms. Byrd is a member of the Georgia Geriatrics Society and an affiliate member of the American Association of Geriatric Psychiatry. She also currently chairs the Atlanta region Aging and Mental Health Coalition.


CLINICAL SERVICES

Raymond Young, MD
Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
Dr. Raymond Young joined the Fuqua Center in January of 2004. Dr. Young received his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in 1998. He completed a combined Internal Medicine-Psychiatry Residency at Rush Presbyterian St. Lukes Hospital in Chicago, IL.  He is board certified in Psychiatry as well as Internal Medicine. Dr. Young serves as the codirector for the Internal Medicine Psychiatry residency program, the Associate Director of the Consult Liaison Service at Emory University Hospital and the Director of Outpatient Clinical Services and the Director of the partial hospitalization program.

Sherry Dey, MSN, CNS
Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist
Ms. Sherry Dey graduated from the Medical College of Georgia School of Nursing earning a Bachelors degree in Nursing in 1978. In 1990 she was awarded a Masters of Science in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Georgia State University. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Psych-Mental Health Nursing. She has extensive experience working in a variety of mental health settings including outpatient, residential and acute care settings. Ms. Dey joined the Fuqua Center in 2003 to work in research and provide clinical services. In addition to providing clinical services to Fuqua Center patients, she also provides community clinical services at the Wesley Woods Towers, Budd Terrace and several assisted living facilities in Atlanta.
Patricia Huskey
Patient Service Associate
Ms. Huskey began working in the front office at the Fuqua Center in September 2005. She assists with patient scheduling, checking patients in and out of appointments, maintaining patient charts, verifying insurance and entering charges. Ms. Huskey was previously employed at Behavior Medicine Institute of Atlanta. Prior to residing in Atlanta, she was employed with Valley Home Care in Paramus, NJ as a Sr. Billing / Collection Analyst.
EDUCATION
Nancie A. Vito, MPH
Senior Program Coordinator
Ms. Nancie Vito joined the Fuqua Center team in May 2004.  She holds a BS in Psychology, a BA in Spanish, and a Master of Public Health.  With a decade of experience in the mental health and social services fields, she holds a strong track record in program development and mental health research.  She currently coordinates community-based mental health interventions, which include statewide projects with the Georgia Department of Human Resources Division of Aging.  She is a certified leader in the evidence-based Stanford University Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) and is a certified instructor in the QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Program.  She has an interest in health psychology, community psychology, prevention and mind/body connections.
RESEARCH

Paul Holtzheimer, MD
Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
Dr. Paul Holtzheimer graduated with honors from Dartmouth Medical School in 1999. He completed his psychiatry residency at University of Washington and was Chief Resident of Outpatient Psychiatry at Harborview Medical Center during his final year. He then completed a one-year research fellowship in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) at University of Washington. He joined the faculty of Emory University in 2004. Dr. Holtzheimer has been involved in neuropsychiatric and neurologic research since medical school. His primary research interests are in the functional neuroanatomy and neuropsychopharmacology of mood disorders, especially when these disorders occur in the context of medical and neurologic illness.
