This site offers resources regarding conditions, injuries, procedures, and lab and test results to assist patients in making informed decisions about surgical care. Links to clinical trials sites are included.
Patient Information, American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG)
The Emory General Thoracic Surgery Center is the only academic site participating in clinical trials sponsored by ACOSOG, a prestigious research organization that evaluates the surgical management of patients with malignant solid tumors. The patient information section of the site includes a listing of ACOSOG studies currently open to patients.
American Cancer Society
In keeping with its position as one of the oldest and largest voluntary health agencies in the U.S., the American Cancer Society website is a vast repository of information on treatment options as well as a gateway to patient and cancer survivor support programs and services.
American Lung Association (ALH)
Founded in 1904 to fight tuberculosis, ALH battles lung disease in all its forms, with special emphasis on asthma, tobacco control and environmental health. ALH's multi-faceted website features a regularly updated "Breaking News" section and free interactive decision support tools that will generate personalized treatment options reports tailored to particular diagnoses.
Cancer Information Service (CIS), National Cancer Institute
CIS provides up-to-date and accurate cancer information to patients, their families, the public and health professionals through such methods as personalized, confidential responses to specific questions about cancer provided by CIS information specialists, either online or by telephone.
National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI)
The NHLBI plans, conducts, fosters and supports an integrated and coordinated program of basic research, clinical investigations and trials, observational studies and demonstration and education projects. Research is related to the causes, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart, blood vessel, lung and blood diseases. Site features include health assessment tools, educational tutorials, recipes for healthy eating, education campaigns and information and publications on various conditions and diseases.
