IUI involves placing washed sperm directly into the uterine cavity through a very thin catheter. The sperm must be separated from the semen because the seminal fluid can irritate the uterus and cause severe cramping and pain. Insemination is timed to occur around ovulation and is often planned in conjunction with an ovulation medication.

Prior to therapy and on a yearly basis, all males are required to have the following laboratory tests performed: HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and Syphilis. Your primary physician may perform this testing but the report must be presented to the Reproductive Center prior to IUI.

Our physicians are available daily to perform this service. Patients using urinary ovulation predictor tests to time insemination should test at mid-morning and call prior to 11:00 a.m. to schedule insemination for the following day. The IUI is usually done 60-90 minutes after the specimen is collected.
