Interferon gamma (Actimmune)
ACTIONS/USES: Anti-fibrotic agent.

Currently under investigation for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). This medication is given as an injection into the skin three times a week.

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

  • Flu-like symptoms - fever, chills, muscle aches, tired feeling, and headache
  • Redness or soreness at injection site.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

  • Take half dose injections the first two weeks (1 vial = 100 mcg).
  • Take injections in the evening to decrease side effects.
  • You may take over-the-counter pain relievers like acetominophen or ibuprofen before your injections to decrease side effects.
  • Call your doctor if side effects become severe or last longer than 24 hours after injections (example: Temperature; 102F).
  • Call your doctor for any increased redness, swelling, or signs of infection at the injection sites. Be sure to rotate your injection sites according to the calendar provided with your prescription.
