Methotrexate
ACTIONS/USES: Anti-cancer drug/Immunosuppressant.

It is used to treat some types of cancer and other inflammatory type diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. It is sometimes used to treat interstitial lung diseases like Sarcoidosis.

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

  • Mouth Sores
  • Decreased blood cell counts.
  • Nausea and gastrointestinal upset
  • Fatigue, chills, fever, and dizziness
  • Increased risk of infections
  • May cause skin rashes, hair loss, and loss of skin pigment.
  • May affect fertility in both sexes.LI>

*** Your doctor will monitor your blood counts more frequently while you are taking this medicine.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

  • Take this medicine with an antacid at bedtime to avoid stomach upset.
  • It is important to drink extra fluid while you are taking this medicine.
  • Report any signs of mouth sores to your doctor. Your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Report any signs of infection like fever to your doctor immediately.
  • Avoid alcohol and aspirin products while taking this medicine.  You should check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any over-the-counter medicine.
  • You should protect yourself from the sun ? wear sunblock, sunglasses, and protective clothing.
  • You should avoid becoming pregnant while taking this medicine. Notify your doctor immediately if you know or think you may be pregnant.
