Directions
Glossary of Terms
Otolaryngology (ENT)

  1. Please wear a short-sleeve or sleevless shirt.

  2. NO antihistamines for four to five days prior to testing. This includes Claritin, Allergra, Tavist, Zyrtec, Chlor-Trimeton, Actifed, Benadryl, and anything labeled decongestant plus. If you are uncertain about any medication you are taking, please check with your nurse or physician. Antihistamines in your body will prevent skin tests from reacting properly, and your testing would not be able to be completed on the day scheduled.

  3. Other medications that can affect skin testing include antidepressants (Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, or Elavil), muscle relaxers (Xanax, Valium, or Ativan), sleeping pills, and stomach medications (includes bowel relaxants and Zantac-like drugs).
  4. Medications you may take include plain decongestants, Tylenol, inhalers, antibiotics, hormones, birth control pills, "water pills," and most blood pressure pills.

  5. Please do not wear perfume or after-shave lotion on the day of testing.

  6. Please allow 1-2 hours for testing.

  7. Please do not bring extra people with you since space in the testing room and waiting room is limited.
