Emory's Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Atlanta, Georgia, is recognized as a regional center of excellence in the treatment or oral and maxillofacial disorders for adult and pediatric patients, from basic wisdom teeth removal to facial and jaw reconstruction. Division surgeons perform a wide variety of diagnostic, inpatient and outpatient services at The Emory Clinic, Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Atlanta VA Medical Center and Grady Memorial Hospital.

graphic arrow Division chief Dr. Steven Roser performs cleft lip and cleft palate surgery, laser surgery, maxillofacial reconstruction, facial plastic surgery, maxil mandibular advancement and treats sleep apnea, head and neck cancer, tongue malignancies and trigeminal neuralgia. In addition to his clinical, academic, and research activities, Dr. Roser has made many trips to Central and South America as a volunteer team leader for Healing the Children to provide such services as cleft lip and cleft palate repair to disadvantaged children.
graphic arrow Dr. Gary Bouloux's areas of expertise include temporomandibular joint (TMJ) surgery and treating mandibular fractures with small bone plates. Recently, he was one of several experts cited in a feature on CNN.com about the suspected relationship between gum disease and heart disease.

Dr. Sam Farish directs the oral and maxillofacial surgery program at the Atlanta VA Medical Center and specializes in implantology, maxillofacial trauma, maxillofacial reconstruction and oral pathology. His research has included two multi-center randomized prospective clinical trials on endosseous dental implant performance, and a multi-center clinical project, sponsored by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, studying the identification of biomarkers for oral cancer.

Dr. Martin Steed oversees the division's residency program. His clinical specialties are maxillofacial trauma, oral and maxillofacial reconstruction, dentoalveolar surgery and dental implants, while his research interests include investigating new techniques in treating maxillofacial trauma, analysis of three dimensional computed tomography examinations of facial fractures, the evaluation and treatment of lingual and inferior alveolar injuries including microsurgical nerve repair and the use of laboratory simulation in developing and testing oral and maxillofacial surgical skills.
