Why has my doctor prescribed Celebrex? Celebrex is a prescribed medication designed to relieve the pain, inflammation and stiffness of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
Tell your physician if you have any of these conditions:
- An allergy to aspirin or other arthritis medicine
- An allergy to sulfa drugs
- An alcohol problem
- Anemia
- Asthma
- Kidney or liver problems
- Take blood thinners
- Stomach ulcers
- Are pregnant or trying to get pregnant
- Are breast feeding
Are there other medications that interact with Celebrex? Inform your doctor if you are taking any of these medications:
- ACE inhibitors for blood pressure
- Aspirin or aspirin-like medications
- Coumadin or blood thinners
- Cyclosporin
- Flucanazole
- Lithium
- Other NSAIDs (arthritis medicines)
- Methotrexate
- Diuretics or "water pills"
What possible side-effects should I watch for? Celebrex is generally well-tolerated. Most patients do not experience any adverse effects. If you have any concerns about possible side-effects, discuss it with your doctor or doctor's nurse.
Report any of the following side effects to your doctor:
- Blood in urine/dark yellow or brown urine
- Black, tarry stools
- Blurred vision
- Skin rash
- Stomach pain
- Unexplained weight gain
- Swelling of the lips, throat, eyes, legs
- Nausea or vomiting
- Yellowing of eyes or skin.
What if I miss a dose of Celebrex? Always try to take your Celebrex at regular intervals. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
