Why has my doctor prescribed Vioxx? Vioxx is a medication prescribed to relieve the pain and inflammation of osteoarthritis.
Tell your physician if you have any of these conditions:
- An allergy to aspirin or other arthritis medication
- An allergy to any non-steroidal antiflammatory medication such as Naprosyn, Motrin or Feldene
- Allergy to rofecoxib
- Kidney disease
- Liver disease
- High blood pressure
- Serious stomach problem in the past
- Are pregnant, or trying to get pregnant
- Are breastfeeding
Are there other medications that interact with Vioxx? Inform your doctor if you are taking any of these medications
- Methotrexate
- Warfarin
- Fifampin
- ACE inhibitors
- Aspirin
- Furosemide
- Lithium
What possible side effects should I watch for? A few people report headache, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, urinary tract infection, back pain and hallucinations.
Report any of the following side-effects to your doctor
- Severe rash
- Hives or skin rash
- Breathing difficulties
- Dizziness
- Swelling of the face, lips or eyelids
- Weakness
- Nausea
- Difficulty swalloing
- Flu-like symptoms
- Yellowing of your skin or eyes
- Stomach pain
- Dark urine
- Pale stools
- Unusual fatigue
- Sudden weight gain or swelling of the feet and legs.
