Body Contouring at Emory Aesthetic Surgery Center

Liposuction:
Liposuction is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgeries in the country. It’s performed through tiny incisions with a suction cannula, which removes unwanted fatty deposits. Most commonly, it is performed on the abdomen and flanks of men and on the abdomen, hips and thighs of women.
Liposuction should not be considered a substitute for weight loss or a treatment for obesity and/or cellulite. Optimal results are obtained when a procedure is supplemented by diet and exercise.
The Emory Aesthetic Surgery Center uses two techniques for liposuction Ultrasonic-Assisted Liposuction (UAL) and Suction-Assisted Lipectomy (SAL), both of which have proven safety records and high patient-satisfaction ratings. Each procedure has its own advantages and you should discuss these options with your Emory physician.
Ultrasonic-Assisted Lipectomy
This new and advanced liposuction technique uses sound waves to break up fat cells, which are aspirated. UAL can be used to remove large volumes of fat and to enhance the results for difficult areas, or following previous liposuction.
Suction-Assisted Lipectomy
This is a more traditional method of liposuction. In an SAL procedure, large volumes of fluid (usually containing an anesthetic) are injected into the body in what is called the tumescent technique. The fluid replaces natural body fluids lost during the suctioning process, which serves to reduce bruising and swelling.
Tummy Tuck:
A tummy tuck is designed to improve the contour of a loosened or flabby abdomen, usually caused by childbirth. The procedure begins with a liposuction followed by the removal of loose skin, and finally the abdominal muscle is tightened. A number of options are available depending on the patient's shape. These options include:
Endoscopic Abdominoplasty:
This procedure is recommended for patients with minimal or no excess fat. There is a small incision made in the abdominal area to tighten the skin and muscles of the region. The incision scar is hidden in the pubic hairline and belly button.
Mini Abdominoplasty:
This is for patients with a moderate amount of skin and fat excess. An incision is made above the pubic hairline to remove excess skin and fatty tissue and to tighten the lower abdominal bulge.
Full Abdominoplasty:
This procedure is designed to correct more significant fat and skin excess, as well as to tighten the abdominal muscles from the rib cage to the pubic area. It is performed through a longer, lower abdominal incision and an incision hidden inside the belly button to remove all excess tissue between the pubic hairline and belly button. A slightly longer recovery is necessary, with most patients able to return to work in two to three weeks.
Arm Lift:
Loose skin may develop around the upper arm as a result of aging. The contour of the triceps area may be improved by tightening the loose skin with liposuction.
Thigh Lift:
A thigh lift is designed to tighten loose skin around the inner thigh and buttocks region for patients who have experienced significant weight loss. It can be combined with liposuction to improve the skin contours and surface appearance. Scars are hidden in the groin and buttocks creases.
