Cosmetic Facial Procedures at Emory Aesthetic Surgery Center

Face lift:

Emory physicians have developed a highly successful and unique approach to this procedure. Rather than the traditional nip and tuck, Emory plastic surgeons use a special technique to reposition the underlying tissues of the face and redrape the skin to provide a more natural look.

A surgical approach is tailored to each individual patient. Incisions are made behind the patient’s hairline or the ears in a manner that minimizes any evidence or scarring despite alterations in hairstyle.

Eyelid Surgery:

The goal of eyelid surgery is to restore a clean crease and smooth skin above the eye shadow area of the upper lid, or to remove the puffiness or bags around the lower lid area. Emory physicians also strive to eliminate the dark shadows and crow’s feet to create a smooth transition from the eyelid to the cheek.

Cheek Lift:

This procedure is designed to uplift the mid-section of the face (from lower lid to mid face), which often sags and protrudes in folds due to aging. The cheek lift is performed to provide a more natural elevation of this area which in traditional face lift surgery has been difficult to achieve. It can be performed on younger patients not requiring a full face lift or combined with a face lift for more dramatic results.

Brow Lift:

This procedure can give the face a more youthful appearance by lifting the eyebrows, which can smooth the forehead and reduce the frown lines in-between.

Emory physicians use an endoscopic technique that involves only three small incisions behind the hairline to minimize any evidence of surgery. A brow lift is often performed in conjunction with an upper eyelid lift for better, longer lasting results.

Rhinoplasty (nose):

The surgical reshaping of the nose is commonly performed to reduce the size, change the shape of the bridge, narrow the tip or adjust the size of the nostrils. In most cases incisions are made inside the nose to hide evidence of scarring. Emory physicians are thoroughly familiar with all the latest rhinoplasty techniques.

Octoplasty (ears):

The most common form of ear surgery repositions them closer to the head to reduce protrusion. The procedure can be performed safely and effectively on children as young as six as well as adults.

A small incision is made in back of the ear to expose the cartilage. The doctor then sculpts the cartilage and bends it back toward the head.  In most cases, ear surgery only leaves a faint scar behind the ear; the scar eventually fades.

Facial Implants:

Implants are used to enhance facial contours and provide an improved balance to the face. Depending on the case, Emory physicians and their patients can select from several types of implants made from a variety of materials. Some are designed to strengthen the appearance of the jaw line or others can bring the chin and cheekbones into balance

Implants are inserted after a small incision in the desired area, leaving a very small scar that eventually fades.

Laser Surgery:

The surfacing of the exterior layer of the facial skin through the use of a laser is a high tech, improved form of dermabrasion.

While this procedure most commonly is used to minimize the appearance of wrinkles around the mouth, eyes and forehead, it is effective in treating sun damage, acne scars and uneven pigmentation. Laser resurfacing can be done in conjunction with a facelift or eyelid surgery to improve the results.

The procedure safely uses the laser to remove damaged skin layer by layer.  During the healing process, new cells form to produce a smoother, younger-looking skin surface. The laser penetrates to a precise, controlled depth, reducing the risk of scarring or pigmentation problems.
