The Emory Department of Pediatric Imaging is dedicated to helping children by using state-of-the-art diagnostic and interventional radiological techniques to provide early detection of illness and the best possible treatment for disease and injury.
Under the direction of Stephen Simoneaux, M.D., our highly trained staff works with children and their parents to assure that the special needs of our patients are managed with compassion, as well as with the latest innovations in health care.
Children's imaging services for Emory are performed at Egleston Children's Hospital at Emory University and at Hughes Spalding Children's Hospital at Grady Memorial Hospital.
We have created a special website, www.pedsimaging.com, that provides information about radiological procedures for children. The site also helps allay fears about these procedures with simple explanations and answers to the many questions parents might have.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS The following are general questions asked by many parents regarding how to prepare their children for radiological procedures.
How can I prepare my child for procedures that may seem scary? It is very beneficial to know what will happen during the procedure before you arrive. This will help you to prepare your child. Steps for each procedure may be found by clicking here on www.pedsimaging.com. You may also phone the department scheduler, (Debra Thomas: 404-315-2488), for more information prior to arriving.
Can I stay with my child during a procedure? Yes, you are encouraged to say with your child for almost all exams.
What should I do if my child begins to cry during the procedure? Since in most instances, you will be in the room, you are free to comfort your child. Speak quietly and calmly to her and distract her with familiar toys, books or dolls that you bring from home.
How can I prepare my child for procedures that might cause some discomfort? Be thoroughly familiar with the procedure by reading about it on the web or by asking questions of the nurse, physician or scheduler prior to the day of the appointment. They will be able to help you and your child cope with any discomfort or stress.
