Why has my doctor prescribed Celebrex?
Celebrex is a prescribed medication designed to relieve the pain, inflammation and stiffness of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Tell your physician if you have any of these conditions:

  • An allergy to aspirin or other arthritis medicine
  • An allergy to sulfa drugs
  • An alcohol problem
  • Anemia
  • Asthma
  • Kidney or liver problems
  • Take blood thinners
  • Stomach ulcers
  • Are pregnant or trying to get pregnant
  • Are breast feeding

Are there other medications that interact with Celebrex?
Inform your doctor if you are taking any of these medications:

  • ACE inhibitors for blood pressure
  • Aspirin or aspirin-like medications
  • Coumadin or blood thinners
  • Cyclosporin
  • Flucanazole
  • Lithium
  • Other NSAIDs (arthritis medicines)
  • Methotrexate
  • Diuretics or "water pills"

What possible side-effects should I watch for?
Celebrex is generally well-tolerated.  Most patients do not experience any adverse effects.   If you have any concerns about possible side-effects, discuss it with your doctor or doctor's nurse.

Report any of the following side effects to your doctor:

  • Blood in urine/dark yellow or brown urine
  • Black, tarry stools
  • Blurred vision
  • Skin rash
  • Stomach pain
  • Unexplained weight gain
  • Swelling of the lips, throat, eyes, legs
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Yellowing of eyes or skin.

What if I miss a dose of Celebrex?
Always try to take your Celebrex at regular intervals.  If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you can.  If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose.  Do not take double or extra doses.
