The Emory Tinnitus & Hyperacusis Center is designed specifically for treating people with tinnitus and hyperacusis (decreased sound tolerance). Our goal is to evaluate, diagnose, and treat tinnitus and/or hyperacusis so effectively that it will no longer be an issue.
Our treatment protocol follows Tinnitus Retratining Therapy (TRT) developed by Professor Pawel J. Jastreboff, Ph.D., Sc.D., who joined The Emory Clinic January 1999 as the Director of our Tinnitus & Hyperacusis Center. TRT is based on a neurophysiological model of tinnitus, describing how the brain reacts to the tinnitus signal. Although a full diagnostic work-up should be done to rule out any medically important causes of the tinnitus, the treatment works equally well regardless of the etiology of the tinnitus.
Patients may opt to schedule a short consultation with one of our staff to address your questions and concerns before making a final decision to engage in TRT, or patients may choose to schedule an evaluation and associated appointments to begin treatment for TRT immediately.
If you would like to schedule an appointment regarding your tinnitus and/or hyperacusis, please call our office at (404) 778-3109 to receive an information packet enclosed with an introductory questionnaire. Once we have received your completed questionnaire we will contact you to schedule your appointment. Information regarding directions and area hotel accomodations will be provided once we have finalized your appointment. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact the Center, and we will be happy to answer your questions.
