One of the most common problems encountered by travelers is respiratory illness, typically caused by viruses.  Washing hands frequently and carrying alcohol-based hand scrub are helpful in preventing infection transmission.  Appropriate vaccinations against influenza and pneumococcal diseases also are helpful.
