(Don't drink too much or too little fluid) It is amazing how much variation there is in fluid intake and urine volumes in different patients. Some women will drink excessive volumes and produce more than 8 or 10 liters of urine a day. It is not unusual for women who do this to complain of urinary frequency and urgency without recognizing that the symptoms are being driven by excessive fluid intake. Other women, who have frequency or urgency, will restrict their fluids in an effort to ease their symptoms. As the body becomes fluid depleted, it will conserve water and reabsorb as much as possible from the colon. This in turn will dry the fecal masses in the bowel and exacerbate constipation and pelvic congestion. As the rectosigmoid colon remains distended with stool, the bladder is effectively displaced and compressed so that it can no longer hold a reasonable capacity. The end result is to sustain further the symptoms of pelvic pressure, urinary frequency and urgency.
Drinking lots of fluids helps by flushing out the bacteria and by helping regulate bowel movevments. You should drink at least eight glasses of water a day.
