The research year is conducted under the mentorship of Dr. Leland Chung, and involves molecular genetic approaches to investigation of developmental processes.

The second (clinical) year is conducted under the supervision of five pediatric urology attendings at the two campuses of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta: Egleston Children's Hospital and Scottish Rite Children's Hospital, which combined has approximately 400 pediatric beds. Competency is developed in all major areas of pediatric urology practice including: endourology, fluid and electrolyte management, genitourinary reconstructive surgery, intersex, neurogenic bladder dysfunction, obstructive uropathy, oncology, perinatal urology, trauma, urinary tract infection, urolithiasis, and voiding dysfunction. An interdisciplinary approach is employed particularly in the care of oncology patients and patients with neurogenic bladder dysfunction.

Successful completion of an accredited residency in general urology is expected prior to entering the fellowship program. Applicants are usually interviewed during PGY-4 (senior resident year) of their urology residency and commitments are made through the AUA supported match.
