Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital offers both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation therapy and can arrange for van pickup within a 10-mile radius. Inpatient rehabilitation therapy is offered within four different settings of the facility: the Rehabilitation Unit, Medical Unit, Inpatient Psychiatry Units and Long Term Hospital. These programs provide comprehensive, interdisciplinary, patient-focused services to a geriatric population using a combination of individual and group treatment.
The goals of the rehabilitation service are to:
- Help older adults achieve maximum strength, stamina, and independence
- Facilitate recovery from a disabling event such as joint replacement, hip fracture, stroke or amputation
- Manage disability or decline in physical function.
In addition to our physician staff, we have physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists that are skilled in the assessment and treatment of patients.

Outpatient Rehabilitation Programs include:
- Pain Management: Specific hands-on technique of mobilization of structure/tissue for the purpose of modulating pain and improving function. Common diagnoses: osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and other orthopedic conditions.
- Balance and Fall Prevention: Treatment of visual, vestibular, and somatosensory components of safe balance and mobility. Common diagnoses: gait disorders, CVA, Parkinson's Disease, and other neurological disorders.
- Strengthening/Posture: Strengthening of gait and posture stability, as well as for upper extremity function. Common diagnoses: osteoarthitis, osteoporosis, fractures, joint replacements and other orthopedic conditions.
- Neuro-rehabilitation: Techniques for normalizing tone and restoring functional movement. Common diagnoses: stroke and other neurological disorders.
- Low Vision: Activities of Daily Living training including visual skills and adaptive strategies. Common Diagnoses: Macular degeneration, homonymous hemianopsia, optic neuropathy.
- Wheelchair Seating and Positioning: Assessment of individual status, abilities and accessibility issues; identification of appropriate equipment to maximize safe mobility.
- ADLS/Home Safety/Home Evaluation: Treatment of cognitive, visual-perceptual and physical skills needed for safety in the living environment; recommendations regarding appropriate living environment. Common diagnoses: dementia, Stroke (CVA) and other neurological disorders.
- Swallowing: Maximize safe oral intake: includes Modified Barium Swallow studies. Common diagnoses: dementia, CVA, other neurological disorders and some postoperative conditions.
- Communication/Cognition: Language - receptive and expressive, cognitive-linguistic skills, speech production, voice disorders, augmentive communication. Common diagnoses: dementia, stroke, other neurological disorders and some postoperative conditions.
