Emory physicians cited in Atlanta magazine’s
list of city’s “Top Doctors”

Sixty-four Emory physicians were cited in the July 2007 issue of Atlanta magazine, which lists the city’s most trusted physicians.

Atlanta magazine asked doctors themselves who they would call when they needed medical attention. The publication’s Top Doctors list was compiled by the New York-based research firm Castle Connally Medical Ltd., whose physician-led team of researchers follows a rigorous screening process to select doctors named to the list.

The article listed 156 physicians and 44 specialties. According to a physician survey conducted by Atlanta magazine, more than 40 percent of Atlanta’s Top Doctors are EMORY HEALTHCARE physicians. EMORY HEALTHCARE physicians listed were:

Jacques Dion, MD, head of interventional neuroradiology at Emory, who was quoted in the article, says, “My dad was a surgeon. I always wanted to be a doctor.”

In Dion’s 25 years of practicing medicine, he recalls an especially memorable patient.

“That patient, in particular, was an 18-year-old when I was at UVA. He was in a coma for three weeks. He followed me to Emory, and I worked with Daniel Barrow, MD, (also on the Top Doctor’s list) on his case. He was ultimately cured and walked out of the hospital. He went on to become a priest and got married. You talk about inspiration. It’s never quite over till it’s over. You always keep the faith and hope that things will turn out better than you think.”

Sarah Berga, MD, a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist with Emory’s Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, relishes her contact with patients. “Every day when I see patients, I am inspired. They never fail to move me even after all these years. I love helping people make their health better.”
