Breast Imaging Center Earns Center of Excellence Designation
The Emory Breast Imaging Center has earned the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence award from the American College of Radiology’s (ACR’s) Commission on Quality and Safety and Commission on Breast Imaging. It is the highest designation available through the ACR.
The Center of Excellence designation recognizes the highest level of achievement in breast imaging, including successfully earning accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided breast biopsy. The Emory Breast Imaging Center participates in the review process to ensure that it meets nationally accepted standards established by the ACR.
“This designation recognizes Emory’s Breast Imaging Center and its dedication to improving women’s health by participating in these rigorous quality assurance programs,” says Barry Pressman, president of the ACR.
“We are very proud of this designation,” says Carl D’Orsi, director of the Center. “Our physicians and staff are dedicated to providing the best, most efficient and most caring service. We constantly participate in educational and certification programs to ensure that we are always improving our ability to interpret medical images and administer radiation therapy treatments.”
From mammographic screening to tissue diagnosis of breast cancer, the Emory Breast Imaging Center works in partnership with Emory Winship Cancer Institute to provide compassionate care using state-of-the-art imaging and the latest biopsy methods. The Breast Imaging Center offers a variety of diagnostic options that include second opinions. The Center’s team of physicians and technologists consults with patients to determine the most appropriate diagnostic plan to meet their specific health needs.
“This designation is an amazing honor,” says Robin Tarpley, RN, BHS, Patient Care Coordinator for Breast Imaging at The Emory Clinic. “Only a small number of facilities have achieved this designation, and it’s a well-deserved recognition for Emory. A lot of hard work went into this from all the modalities of the Breast Center — the physicians, nurses, technologists and research staff — everyone was involved.”
