Wesley Woods Wound Therapy Clinic team enhances care through multidisciplinary conversations

When the time for planning for this year's Wound Ostomy and Continence Nurses Week arrived, the Wesley Woods Wound Therapy Clinic team wanted to celebrate, but also wanted to bring together individuals from multiple disciplines, share helpful educational materials and explain what the Magnet journey means to them. Therefore, during the celebratory week of April 18 to 24, the team set up an informational table, complete with information on wound and ostomy care, skin care, healthy snacks and the Magnet journey. Physicians, nurses, patients, family members and other members of the caregiver team stopped by and shared in the conversation. Such shared conversations and information exchanges enhance the delivery of patient care and also foster a true, open dialogue - authentically connecting with Care Transformation.

The Respiratory Care team at Emory University Hospital Midtown walks around the world!

The Respiratory Care team at Emory University Hospital Midtown is off on a journey around the world! In a great team- and wellness-building program, all team members and their family members were invited to join in the "Walk Around the World." In July 2009, each team member was provided with a pedometer and started on the virtual journey - making stops along the way to locations that are near and dear to staff members' hearts, such as a birthplace or location of a family member. The team even has a large map (shown in the below photo) on the wall with these special stops marked. Since July, Respiratory Care has walked 24,342 miles and hopes to be "home" to Atlanta by May 12!

In addition to the big trip around the globe, the Midtown Respiratory Care team participated in Climb Atlanta, a citywide event on Saturday, April 17, with more than 500 participants. The Respiratory Care team trained for the Climb Atlanta hike up 1,150 steps at 191 Peachtree Street, by walking the stairwells in the Medical Office Tower at Emory University Hospital Midtown. Not only did the team members raise money with a bake sale fundraiser for the American Lung Association as part of Climb Atlanta, but they also placed third overall during the event! Pictured below by the Emory University Hospital Midtown sign are members of our Climb Atlanta team.

Team members show their giving spirit

In response to team member requests to provide assistance to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, Emory Healthcare established two ways to give back:

  1. Create a Haiti health kit and drop it off in one of the designated bins
  2. Purchase a Help for Haiti card in the cafeterias

We collected the donations and the results are phenomenal! Within just a few weeks, we were able to donate more than $3,600 via the Help for Haiti cards and dropped off 525 Haiti health kits! Thank you for the caring and compassion you have demonstrated for the victims of this tragedy.
