Patient Success Stories
Craig Eccleston:
Craig E., a construction contractor, presented to Dr. Ken Anderson in June of 2005. He had already experienced heavy hair loss on the sides of his forelock at his frontal hairline. He did not want to become "bald." Craig was interested in keeping his hair, and maintaining a young look. "I didn't want to get older and lose all my hair, and have the whole world know I was bald" explains Craig.
Dr. Ken Anderson restored this 37-year-old’s hairline to a completely natural look with only 1,900 grafts in a single procedure, using the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique. Craig is single, and was concerned about having a scar in the donor area. "I didn't want any girl I date to run her fingers through my hair and find a scar, or any sign that I'd had anything done. The FUE procedure was perfect, and I have absolutely no scar in my donor area."
"The FUE hair restoration procedure uses no scalpels or stitches. We can obtain the hair for the transplants using state-of-the-art instrumentation and technique, leaving behind no visible scarring in the donor area" says Dr. Ken Anderson. "It's great for people who keep their hair very short, or who do not want to live with a scar on their scalp."
"This is an example of how a person's look can change dramatically with a simple augmentation of the frontal hairline. It provides a more youthful, more robust frame to the face" says Dr. Ken Anderson.
Craig was very concerned about the natural appearance of the transplanted hair. "I wanted to keep the procedure private. The hairline is so amazing! I have been to several hair stylists, and not a single one has mentioned anything. When I tell them the hair has been transplanted, they are blown away by how natural it looks!"
Dr. Anderson planned for future loss by feathering and blending the newly transplanted hair into the existing hair in and around the frontal forelock. "By blending the new hair in with Craig’s existing hair, he will not develop an unusual look or hair loss pattern as his hair loss continues as time goes by."
"Craig’s frontal hair loss is a very common pattern for men. Hair restoration in this area leads to significant transformation in one’s appearance," adds Dr. Anderson.
Steve Anderson
Steve A., a software engineer and entrepreneur, began losing his hair in his early 20's. By the time he was 40, his hairline had disappeared, and much of the hair on the top of his head had been lost. Steve had lost the youthful look he enjoyed, and stated that he "felt significantly older" because of the hair loss and how it affected his look.
He was 46 when he met with Dr. Anderson. His main concern was a completely natural appearing frontal hairline. "I feel young inside. I looked in the mirror, and the person looking back just didn’t reflect how I feel about myself; I wanted to do something to restore my confidence, both at work, and with the ladies."
Most men's hair loss stabilizes at about age 40-45, so Dr. Anderson and his staff could be very aggressive with the number of follicles transplanted because future hair loss was not as much of a concern.
Steve received 3,105 grafts during one procedure in October of 2006. His baldness is gone forever, and he is very satisfied with his experience, and with his new look. "I was impressed that it’s my own, growing, natural hair. It looks perfect! I went back to a family reunion last year, and my brothers were really envious. I was worried that it would turn out unusual looking, or like I had gone through a procedure. The hairline was my biggest concern."
Dr. Anderson adds, "The frontal hairline is where the rubber hits the road...it’s absolutely critical. It can completely make or break a transplant; if the hairline is done perfectly, the entire transplant fails"
Gerald N.
Gerald N., a retired Dekalb County Sheriff's Deputy, is an example of how a person with significant loss can achieve a completely new look with a single procedure. The new hair and hairline serve to frame Gerald's face naturally, making him look years younger and restoring a new vibrant, natural look.
Gerald has had one procedure of 2,012 grafts in October of 2009, at the age of 67. "He's grown out somewhat quickly. This is a good result for only a little over 5 months of growth. I expect his hair to thicken up substantially over the next 3 or 4 months" says Dr. Ken Anderson. "I am surprised at how easy the process was, and how natural the hair looks" says Gerald. "My friends at church haven't noticed a thing. They do ask me if I have been working out, or I have lost weight...they can't put their finger on it. When I tell them it's my new hair, they can’t believe it, even after looking at the new hair up close."
"We were conservative in the temporal areas [corners] of his frontal hairline. I am obsessive about an extremely natural appearance for my patients. I often explain to patients that when the new hair grows in, it should look as though it has always been there, and not like we have replaced it."
Gerald is thrilled with his new look, and is quick to point out how comfortable the procedure was. "I was initially worried about the discomfort associated with having the procedure, and worried about how much discomfort I would be in after the procedure. Well, I can tell you that it was not as uncomfortable as having my teeth cleaned! I slept through most of the procedure, and had zero pain the next day."
Dr. Anderson explains, "Gerald's experience is typical for patients of mine. I strive to make the procedures as comfortable as possible, in keeping with the platinum-level service we provide to our patients. Patients are often back to work the next day.
