IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

"IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is photo therapy that uses multiple wavelengths of visible light. A series of treatments is generally needed to achieve optimal results. IPL is used to treat the following conditions:

  • Fine to Moderate Wrinkles
  • Large Pores
  • Permanent Hair Reduction Facial Redness
  • Rosacea
  • Skin discoloration
  • Skin Therapy
  • Hair Removal

Using IPL to Treat Aging/Rosacea Skin:

IPL's multi-wavelength pulse light therapy penetrates the outer layers of skin (epidermis) and delivers light energy to the deeper (dermal) layers of skin. It is within the dermis that collagen, the main supporting structure of our skin, resides and is produced. The light energy tightens collagen protein bundles and stimulating fibroblasts to produce more collagen, which reduces the appearance of facial line, wrinkles and pore size. Since the light energy penetrates the outer layers of skin, there is none of the peeling and redness associated with traditional laser resurfacing. When treating hyperpigmentation, spider veins or rosacea, the light energy targets the unwanted pigment (melanin or blood vessels) while leaving the skin intact.

Using IPL for Hair Removal:

IPL hair removal therapy is FDA approved for permanent hair reduction. Facial hair goes through an active growing phase every 3 to 6 weeks; non-facial hair every 8 to10 weeks. This is the only phase in which hair responds to treatment. Most patients will see a remarkable reduction in both the density and rate of growth within 2 to 3 weeks after the first treatment. With subsequent treatments, permanent hair reduction is generally achieved.

Using IPL to Treat Unwanted Blood Vessels and Rosacea:

To remove unwanted blood vessels and the red flushing associated with rosacea, concentrated light energy passes through the outer skin to the vessels where heat destroys the selected target but leaves surrounding tissue intact. The flow of blood is then re-directed to vessels deeper in the skin. At Emory Facial Center, our aesthetician can perform this treatment on your face, neck and chest.

Microdermabrasion

A gentle abrasion that reveals younger, smoother, more even-toned skin. This treatment is excellent for most skin types, including those with fine lines, rough texture, hyperpigmentation and large pores. The treatment includes an enzyme exfoliation, massage, extractions, soothing serums and sun protection.

Deep Cleansing Facial

Recommended for congested, acne prone skin. Enzymes are applied to soften blockage and prepare for extractions. A soothing serum is applied followed by mask and sun protection.

Alpha Hydroxy Acid Exfoliation

AHAs such as glycolic acid or lactic acid offer an intensive exfoliation of surface skin that is dry, pigmented or acne prone. Skin becomes smoother and more even-toned, with fewer lines and breakouts. Includes a calming and hydrating mask.

Jessner's Peel

A more aggressive sloughing of surface skin helps to even skin tone, diminish fine lines and control acne. Flaking of the skin will occur over a period of one week.

TCA Peel

This is a deeper, more aggressive procedure that peels away damaged skin, resulting in dramatic smoothing of fine lines and uneven skin tone. Recommended for sun damaged skin with loss of skin tone and elasticity. Healing time is usually 7 to 10 days. Preconditioning of the skin is required and may last 2 to 6 weeks. Regional TCAs are also available for other areas, such as under the eyes, hands and the perioral region.
