Correction of a Weak or Prominent Chin

A well-defined chin provides balance to the face when combined with the other facial features. Surgical possibilities for the chin include inserting a chin implant to create definition, reducing a chin that is too prominent or even a restructuring of the jaw. A consultation with Dr. Yellin will help you decide which procedure is right for you.

The need for chin augmentation or reduction should be evaluated in several circumstances. First, if the patient is changing their nasal profile, it is always necessary to evaluate the patient's overall facial profile which includes an assessment of chin projection. Second, if a patient is to undergo lower face and neck rejuvenation, chin projection should be evaluated. Third, if someone has a heavy neck and is to have an isolated neck contouring procedure such as liposuction, the chin profile should be assessed. Fourth, if the patient has normal dental occlusion but is unhappy with their chin projection then it should be evaluated for correction.
